Digital Desk: The Apple iPhone 15 series will be available in less than a month. According to a source, Apple's next iPhone 15 series may finally address this charging speed issue.
As reported by 9to5Mac, industry sources believe that at least certain models in the iPhone 15 series will have faster charging speeds of up to 35W. At the moment, it's unclear whether Apple will increase wired charging speed across all four iPhone 15 models or reserve this innovation just for the Pro models.
Given Apple's previous actions, they may take the latter route. Historically, new features have frequently debuted on iPhone Pro models before being released to non-Pro versions a year or two later.
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are now limited to 20W cable charging speeds, however, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have 27W charging capabilities.
This latest leak confirms previous claims that Apple intends to deliver faster charging speeds alongside a switch to USB Type-C connections this year.
Due to EU rules, the iPhone 15 series is widely rumoured to say goodbye to the Lightning port, marking one of the most major changes in incoming iPhones.
While a 35W wired charging speed may not match the prowess of other Android OEMs, it still outperforms the constraints of 20W or 27W charging.
Notably, Apple's main rival Samsung offers a 25W charging speed for the Galaxy S23 and an even faster 45W charging speed for the Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra.
To add to the enigma, recent rumours indicate that the iPhone 15 series' USB Type-C port may enable Thunderbolt. This change may result in data transmission speeds that are up to 40 times quicker than those of a Lightning connection. More interestingly It appears that this innovation will extend across the entire iPhone 15 series.
