Digital Desk: Social networking giant Meta may soon launch the web version of Instagram Threads, a rival to X, formerly Twitter. The company had only unveiled Threads as an app for iOS and Android, but a web version was missing. According to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the company is working on providing the feature as well as improving search functionality. However, according to the Wall Street Journal, "Meta's launch plans aren't final and could change."
About a week ago, Instagram head Adam Mosseri posted that Threads is working on a web version.
"We’re working on it! We’ve been using an early version internally for a week or two. Still needs some work before we can open it up to everyone, though." Mosseri posted on Threads.
It should be noted that Threads is having difficulty retaining customers following an initial surge and launch. IA month after its launch and an initial high, Instagram Threads continues to lose popularity and users.
The "Twitter rival" has lost more than 75% of its daily active users (DAUs) on Android, a report said last week. According to analytics firm Similarweb, the Instagram Threads app for Android peaked at 49.3 million daily active users globally on July 7. Now, the app has lost 79% of its DAUs. The app's DAUs were down to 10.3 million as of August 7.
The average amount of time DAUs spend on the Threads app started at around 14 minutes worldwide. It should be noted that it was far greater in the United States, with nearly 21 minutes on July 7. By August 7, this had been reduced to barely three minutes, according to the analytics firm. Threads had 2.3 million daily active users on July 7 in the United States, falling to around 576,000 on August 7.
