Digital Desk: Elon Musk after giving a hint earlier has now made it public. The Twitter CEO, who bought Twitter last year, has stated that he has found someone else to lead the company. In other words, Twitter will soon have a new CEO, and Musk will transition into a new role focused on products. 

According to reports, the new Twitter CEO will be Linda Yaccarino, the current chairperson of global advertising and partnerships at NBC Universal.

Musk made the announcement on Twitter on Thursday, May 11. "Excited to announce that I've hired a new CEO for X/Twitter," he tweeted. "She will begin in 6 weeks! My role will change to that of executive chair and CTO, with responsibility for product, software, and sysops."

While Musk did not divulge the identity of the new Twitter CEO, suspicions rapidly circulated that it was Yaccarino. Kara Swisher, a journalist and Silicon Valley insider, speculated that the individual is none other than Yaccarino. Soon after, the Wall Street Journal reported that Yaccarino is likely to be the new CEO of Twitter.

Yaccarino is well-known in the media industry. She has worked with NBC Universal for over 20 years, serving in a number of leadership roles. She is currently in charge of all of NBCUniversal's global advertising and partnerships operations.

The Wall Street Journal was among the first to report that Yaccarino is in "talks" to become Twitter's new CEO. However, no confirmation has been provided by NBCUniversal. Yaccarino has likewise been tight-lipped regarding her selection as Twitter's new CEO.

Assuming Yaccarino is actually the new CEO, Elon Musk appears to be operating his social media site in the traditional Silicon Valley style. Often, tech titans employ industry insiders to oversee their company's operations while they concentrate on innovation and products. Google's founders did it earlier when they hired Eric Schmidt. Mark Zuckerberg employed the same technique at Facebook, where prior COO Sheryl Sandberg handled the company's business while its famed founder concentrated on products.

After the Twitter acquisition, the Tesla CEO said in November that he had "too much work" on his plate, and in December, he surveyed Twitter users on whether he should stand down as CEO. The majority of respondents preferred that he resign from his post. Musk joked about who would take over Twitter if he left, saying he would quit as soon as he found "someone foolish enough to take the job." He also stated that he intends to hire a new CEO before the end of 2023.
