Amazon to Stop Older Kindle E-Readers from Browsing, Buying New Books

As Amazon's Android app no longer supports purchasing Kindle books, it's time to move on. The only way to buy Kindle books is through your PC or laptop's browser.

Digital Desk: Amazon is disabling store
access from older Kindle models to let its users no longer be able to browse,
buy, and borrow books from its dated e-readers, and the new rules will come
    into effect from August 17.

color:black;mso-themecolor:text1">The rule applies to Kindle owners with the
Kindle (2nd Gen) International, Kindle DX International, Kindle Keyboard,
Kindle (4th Gen), and Kindle (5th Gen) devices (5th Gen).

color:black;mso-themecolor:text1">Users were notified of the new development
via an email addressed to their email addresses. Amazon is offering a discount
to users who are still using the old Kindle to upgrade to a Kindle device.

color:black;mso-themecolor:text1">According to Good e-reader, Amazon is
purportedly blocking access to older Kindle e-readers owing to a Transport
Layer Security (TLS) issue. Older e-readers will no longer handle newer TLS
    versions due to hardware restrictions.

color:black;mso-themecolor:text1">A Reddit user shared the email from Amazon,
which read, "Thank you for continuing to use one of our earliest Kindle
devices. While you can continue reading on your device, as of August 17, 2022,
store functionality will no longer be available. This change only affects
certain devices introduced 10+ years ago (listed below). As of August 17,
you'll no longer be able to browse, buy, or borrow books directly from these
Kindle devices. As always, you'll be able to browse, buy, and borrow books on
other supported devices or through amazon.com/ebooks. "

color:black;mso-themecolor:text1">Users of the Kindle app for Android and iOS
are not permitted to purchase books through the Amazon app. E-books can only be
    purchased using a browser.

This is how you can get Kindle books from
    Amazon-
