Digital Desk: Friendship Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of August in India. It falls on August 6 this year. Friendship Day celebrates the relationships we share with our friends and how they shape our lives through their love and unwavering support.
People usually mark Friendship Day by spending quality time with their friends, surprising them with gifts, participating in activities they enjoy, and so forth.
When it comes to friendship, none other than Lord Krishna would be a great match. Lord Krishna is described as the perfect example of friendship, his companionship is never tainted by the selfish motivations that stain material relationships.
Here are some pure bondings of lord Krishna's friendship-
Lord Krishna with Sudama: Sudama was Shri Krishna's childhood pal. Sudama is said to have been born on Earth so that he may meet Krishna and participate in his acts.
Sudama was born into a poor family. Krishna, on the other hand, was born into a royal family. The disparity in their social standing, however, did not detract from their genuine friendship or kinship.
Lord Krishna and Sudama were childhood companions and schoolmates at Gurukul, where they were taught by Guru Sandipani. They were separated after their education was completed. However, neither Krishna nor Sudama could forget their wonderful friendship.
As the saying goes of their friendship, once Shree Krishna asked Sudama "Will you be my friend?". One can tell how fortunate the individual will be for whom the Lord Himself asks for Friendship! Sudama hesitated because he was aware of his poverty.
"But I am a poor Brahmin, and You are a royal; how can we ever be friends?" Sudama asked. "Friends support one another in times of need, but I have nothing to offer you!" said Sudama. "Just promise me that we will always be friends," Shree Krishna pleaded. "As your friend, I make the proposition. I will never ask you for something you cannot provide." Sudama accepted Shree Krishna's friendship offer after hearing this!
Sudama and Krishna were inseparable. To this day, their unity is an example of true friendship ahead of the planet. It is typically why they are commemorated on the auspicious occasion of Friendship's Day.
Lord Krishna with Draupadi: Though not biological siblings, Shri Krishna and Draupadi shared a special and profound relationship of love and affection.
Draupadi and Krishna's connection is one of the best instances of true friendship. Draupadi and Krishna were best friends. Krishna addressed her as 'Sakhi,' and she addressed him as 'Sakha.' They were constantly supportive of one another.
Their mutual love and respect for one another created an outstanding example of unselfish friendship and unconditional generosity that will be remembered for decades and centuries. They talked about their aspirations, worries, and dreams. They formed a great platonic friendship by caring for and supporting one another completely.
Lord Krishna with Arjun: Arjun regarded Krishna as a friend and guide. In the decisive battle of Kurukshetra, Arjun asked Krishna to be his charioteer, directing the horses, which was also symbolic of intellect. Horses in a chariot, like our minds, if not adequately directed, will wander in all directions and never achieve their destination. Krishna readily agreed to be his charioteer.
In fact, just as the battle was about to begin, Arjun felt emotionally weak, wanting to give up and not fight because he saw his loved ones standing against him. Krishna, his companion, was acting as a tremendous mentor at the time. He explained his duty and righteousness to him, all of which are recorded in the sacred book of Gita.
On this day friendship day shouldn't be just celebrated, it should be cherished with unconditional and selfless love like lord Krishna.
