is a popular member of the Pav-based Street Food family. However, it has
traditionally taken a back seat to Pav Bhaji or Vada Pav.

vegetarian dish at the Foodie Hub Awards in London in 2015.
The
honour was given to one restaurant in particular, Dadar's Aaswad.
For
most Mumbai residents, Aaswad is the heart of Misal. Bal Thackeray inaugurated
the restaurant in 1986. It was claimed in 2015 that it supplied over 400 plates
of Misal Pav per day.
The
modest dish has been honoured globally for the eighth time after achieving a
high rank on the list of the Best Traditional Vegan Dishes in the globe.
On
the rankings list of Best-rated vegan dishes in the world issued lately by food
guide website Taste Atlas, Misal Pav came it at number 11, missing the 10th slot
to the Arabic dish 'Mujaddara'.
However,
it ranked higher than popular vegan dishes like as Maakouda, Andrei copti,
Fasole batuta, and Mayak Gimbap.
Three
more Indian vegetarian staples made the top 25: Aloo Gobi, Rajma, and Gobi
Manchurian. Aloo Gobi was ranked 20th, Rajma was ranked 22nd, and Gobi
Manchurian was ranked 24th.
Masala
vada was ranked 27th, Bhelpuri was ranked 37th, and Rajma chawal was ranked
41st.
Seven
Indian vegan recipes were among the top 50.
