Gandhi, known for his political acumen, made headlines not for his political moves this time, but for his choice to adopt a three-month-old Jack Russell Terrier puppy during his visit to North Goa's Mapusa.

The Gandhi family's love for pets is no secret, and this latest addition to their fold has once again showcased their affinity for animals. Sharvani Pitre, an esteemed dog breeder, and her husband, Stanley Braganca, of North Goa’s Mapusa, were approached earlier this week by Gandhi's office regarding the availability of two short-legged Jack Russell Terrier puppies. This breed, known for its heightened sense of sight and smell, intelligence, friendliness, hyperactivity, and agility, seemed to be a perfect match for the Gandhi household.

On Thursday morning at around 9 am, Rahul Gandhi paid a surprise visit to the Pitre family in Mapusa. The visit was marked not only by a sense of camaraderie but also by Gandhi's genuine love and passion for dogs. The meeting was described as warm, with Gandhi engaging with the family in a down-to-earth manner, chatting over coffee, and being deeply engrossed in playing and interacting with the dogs.

"We breed several exotic breeds of dogs. We were told that he [Gandhi] had lost a pet [dog] recently… We did not know he would visit in person. It was a short visit. He came across as a humble and down-to-earth person. He chatted with us like a friend and had coffee. Most of the time, he was engrossed in playing and interacting with the dogs, and selected two Jack Russell Terrier puppies," Sharvani Pitre said.

During his visit, Gandhi carefully selected one of the puppies to accompany him on his journey back home, while the other puppy will be sent to him at a later time. This heartwarming gesture not only signifies Gandhi's affection for animals but also his deep understanding of the responsibilities that come with pet ownership.

In addition to his interaction with the furry companions, Gandhi also took the opportunity to meet with Congress leaders in the state. Among those he met were the Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly, Yuri Alemao, and the President of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, Amit Patkar. This blend of political engagements and personal moments highlights the multifaceted nature of Gandhi's visit.
