Wish to take hockey to schools and colleges of India: PR Sreejesh

Thiruvananthapuram: The star goalkeeper of the Indian hockey team and Olympic bronze medalist PR Sreejesh has expressed his delight and privilege over receiving the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award this year.

Reacting to the honour, the goalkeeping said that to raise the interest towards the game of hockey among the youngsters in the country he wishes to popularize the sport across the schools and colleges in India.

Further, he also added that that if Hockey India League – which is the professional hockey league in India, last held in 2017 – is revived than it can open multiple opportunities for young hockey players.

“I wish I am able to take hockey to schools and if the Hockey India League (HIL) is revived, it could open numerous opportunities for youngsters,” he said.

PR Sreejesh, who hails from Kochi, Kerala is the former captain of the Indian hockey team.

He led the national side to end the four decade long medal drought for the country in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan, along with his fans and well-wishers across the country have congratulated him on being honored with the Khel Ratna.
