Assam-Meghalaya Border Dispute: Amit Shah to Meet Assam & Meghalaya CMs After March 10

Digital Desk: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to meet Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma after March 10 to settle the border disputes between the two states.

It is predicted that the meeting between the two CMs would bring a permanent solution to the decades-long border dispute between the two states.

Earlier, Amit Shah called both the CM to New Delhi, where they submitted a report on their agreement to resolve the border conflict.

Home Ministry official said, "The meeting will be held after March 10 due to the Union Home Minister's involvement in the upcoming assembly elections in five states,".

For the next few days, Shah is expected to be busy with the Uttar Pradesh and Manipur campaigns. Shah went to Manipur on Wednesday to campaign for BJP candidates.

According to a home ministry official, the good relationship between the two CMs aided both states in resolving the border dispute.

"We believe the boundary dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will be settled as well," the official said, adding that both Chief Ministers have a friendly relationship.

Notably, in addition to Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, Assam also has border disputes with Mizoram and Nagaland. Last year, five Assam police officers and one civilian were killed in a border clash between the two states.

Before presenting the report to the Home Ministry, officials from the Survey of India had already begun discussions with authorities from Assam and Meghalaya. According to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the national government has ordered the Survey of India to coordinate and conduct a joint inspection and survey with officials from both states.
