COVID-19: India sees World's Ever Highest Daily Cases amid Oxygen Crises

India records the world’s highest-ever daily Covid-19 cases for the second day in a row. In the last 24 hours, the positive cases recorded were 4, 14,188 and the death toll has lead to 2, 34,083 in the last 24 hours.

India’s total tally of Covid-19 cases climbed to 2,14,91,598, while the active cases crossed the 36-lakh mark, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday. The active cases have increased to 36,45,164 comprising 16.96 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has dropped to 81.95 per cent.

The country is struggling with a second wave, raising more fears about its overwhelmed health care system. A number of people have died while waiting for oxygen. Families are waiting hours to perform funeral rites with at least one Delhi crematorium resorting to building pyres in its car park in order to cope with the numbers arriving.

Some countries are bringing in stricter rules affecting travel to and from India amid fears over the rising cases.
