Digital Desk: In relation to the murder of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician Sonali Phogat, the Goa Police detained the proprietor of Curlies Beach Shack on Saturday. Phogat was last spotted at the popular shack before her death.

A suspected drug dealer in the case, who is accused of providing drugs to the two accused—Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Singh—was detained by police earlier in the day.

The police said that Dattaprasad Gaonkar, a suspected drug dealer, was taken into custody after the accused pair "admitted" in their statement that they had bought drugs from him.

The 42-year-old BJP politician was brought dead to St Anthony Hospital at Anjuna in North Goa district on August 23 morning from her hotel.

On Friday, the police stated that Sagwan and Singh had been charged with murder for allegedly mixing a "obnoxious material" in water and forcing Phogat to consume it while partying  at Curlies restaurant on the intervening night of August 22 and 23.

According to a top police officer, "economic interest" may have been the driving force behind the alleged murder of Phogat.
