Digital Desk: Twitter has suspended the handle of one of India's leading news agencies, ANI, alleging a violation of Twitter rules owing to the account's age being under 13 years.
Smita Prakash, the editor of ANI, turned to Twitter to update her followers on the situation. The newsgroup has about 7.6 million followers on its Twitter profile and was previously certified as an official organization on the social media site, sporting the coveted golden tick.
Smita expressed her dismay, she shared the e-mail notification which stated, "You must be at least 13 years old to open a Twitter account. Twitter has determined that you do not meet the age requirements, so your account has been locked and removed from Twitter."
The ANI gold tick was recently removed and replaced with a blue tick, and the new agency is now fully banned from the site.
Following ANI, It is also reported that NDTV's account was also terminated for the same reason.
