Digital Desk: A swarm of enraged protestors stopped the National Highway connecting Howrah and Kolkata on Thursday (June 9), causing traffic congestion and public annoyance.

On NH116, protestors wearing skull caps and lungis made a stir. They screamed anti-Islamic slurs and set fire to tyres. Dark smoke was swallowing the skies in videos that recently surfaced on social media.
According to reports, the blockade began at about 10:30 a.m. at Nibra (Kona Expressway-NH16 junction) and concluded around 9:30 p.m. It ran for around 12 kilometers from the second Howrah bridge to Kolkata'sKolkata's AJC Bose Road.
For more than 5 hours, there was traffic congestion. Many commuters were forced to abandon their cars and go to the streets instead. The trucks were forced to a halt for more than 20 kilometers.
The mass was spotted occupying the streets and seemed unconcerned about the inconvenience they were causing to others.

"Go protest in UP, Gujarat states where BJP is in power. But they are not in power in Bengal, so don't do this for publicity here."
She had mourned how Islamists were making the people of West Bengal suffer due to remarks made by the ex-BJP spokesperson. During a press conference in Nabanna, the West Bengal Chief Minister begged the crowd to leave the roadway with folded hands.
Banerjee further solicited, "People are suffering. Everyone is sitting in the car for hours. What are they to blame? What is their crime? Why should people suffer for the BJP? I beg you to spare people. I don't allow road blockades or strikes. So please don't take revenge on people."
TMC Minister Firhad Hakim, seated next to CM Banerjee, claimed that Islam is a religion of peace that opposes disturbance, rioting, and problems.
