Digital Desk: Santoor maestro and Indian classical music composer Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma died of cardiac arrest in Mumbai on Tuesday at 84. He was suffering from kidney problems and had been on dialysis for the previous six months.

Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma was born in Jammu on January 13, 1938. Santoor is credited with giving Hindustani Classical Music its identity. After bringing it to new heights, he began composing music for Bollywood, starting with background music for Shantaram's 'Jhanak Jhanak Baje Payal.'
In 1960, he recorded his first solo and collaborated with flautist Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia and guitarist Brij Bhushan Kabra to produce catchy tunes.
He also composed music for several Yash Chopra films, such as Lamhe, Chandani, and Silsila.
