17 Feared Dead as Truck Plunges into Gorge Near India-China Border in Arunachal Pradesh
Digital Desk: A tragic accident occurred on the Hayuliang–Chaglagam road along the Indo-China border in Arunachal Pradesh when a truck carrying 21 labourers plunged into a deep gorge. According to Anjaw Deputy Commissioner Millo Kojin, at least 17 labourers are feared dead.
Although the accident took place on Monday, it came to light only after a severely injured survivor reached the headquarters town and alerted authorities. The incident occurred on the Chaglagam border road, approximately 45 km from the international boundary, at an altitude exceeding 10,000 feet.
Several victims were trapped inside the truck, while others fell outside as the vehicle tumbled down the gorge. One of the injured, suffering from severe head injuries and facial bone fractures, is being evacuated to Assam for treatment. Coordination with Assam Police is underway to complete the necessary formalities for the other victims.
A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has been mobilised from Dibrugarh, Assam, to conduct search and rescue operations. Local authorities are working round the clock to locate survivors and recover the bodies. The accident has highlighted the treacherous conditions of high-altitude border roads, where minor misjudgments can lead to catastrophic consequences.
Officials have urged residents and travelers in the region to exercise extreme caution, particularly on steep and winding roads near the international border.
