Digital Desk: At least 22 people were killed and another 80 were injured in Pakistan after 10 bogies of the Rawalpindi-bound Hazara Express overturned as the train derailed.

According to Geo TV, the accident occurred on Sunday near the Sahara Railway Station, which is located between Shahzadpur and Nawabshah.

From Karachi, the Hazara Express went to Rawalpindi.

Deputy Superintendent of Pakistan Railways Mahmood Rehman said, "Right now, the focus is on rescue work and recovering people from the derailed compartments," adding that the cause of the accident is being looked into.

Visuals showed how police and rescue personnel—along with volunteers from the general public—were attempting to rescue passengers from the derailed compartments.

As reported by Geo TV, the affected people were moved to the People's Medical Hospital in Nawabshah. The exact reason for the derailment is still unknown, according to the officials.

Following the incident, local hospitals have been required to follow an emergency protocol.
