Digital Desk: The 4.2 magnitude earthquake centered in North Garo Hills area of Meghalaya struck today at 11:32 am ,  causing vibrations to spread throughout the nearby  places including Guwahati and other parts of Assam.

The epicenter  of the quake occurred in North Garo Hills within Meghalaya territory according to the National Center for Seismology and  the earthquake depth reached 5 kilometers beneath the surface.

National Center for Seismology (NCS) released the information through  a post on  “X” formerly known as Twitter,  that read “EQ of M: 4.2, On: 20/02/2025 11:32:58 IST, Lat: 25.87 N, Long: 90.70 E, Depth: 5 Km, Location: North Garo Hills, Meghalaya.”

A mild earthquake with a measuring strength of 4.2 on Richter scale  points shook North Garo Hills district in Meghalaya during the morning of 20th  February . The tremors recorded by the system at 11:32 am Indian Standard Time. The earthquake shaking spread across areas of Assam that included Guwahati.

Surface shaking created by earthquakes remains more significant when the seismic source occurs at shallower depths than deeper ones below the surface.

This report confirms no reported damage to property together with no deaths or casualties .
Frequent earthquakes occur often in the northeastern region of India because this area exists in an area of seismic activity.
