Donald Trump will order the US government to officially recognize only 2 biological genders…

Digital Desk: US President Donald Trump announced an important policy change soon after he took over as the second president of the United States. In his inaugural speech, Trump announced that from now onwards, US government records would acknowledge only two genders male and female, revoking official recognition to the third gender. On Monday, just days after taking over office, Trump explained the new policy line and said that it would be enforced immediately.

Trump emphasized that under his administration, the government will only acknowledge two genders, based solely on an individual's physical characteristics. Consequently, all official documents, including passports, visas, and other records, will reflect only male or female genders. Government agencies have been instructed to discard policies allowing individuals to identify as a gender different from their biological sex. This marks a departure from previous practices that allowed gender self-identification on official documents.

This is a reversal of policies introduced by former President Joe Biden, who, on his first day in office, enacted measures recognizing the third gender on government documents. Widespread criticism greeted Trump's move to repeal the policy.

Various human rights and third-gender advocacy organizations across the U.S. have condemned the decision. Kelly Robinson, chairperson of the Human Rights Campaign, the country's largest third-gender rights organization, said, "We are not going backwards. We will fight this with all our strength."

This decision has started debates across the country, critics saying it undermines the rights of  non-binary and transgender people and supporters saying that it restores what they call a traditional definition of gender. There is likely to be legal challenges, as well as widespread protests by rights organizations arguing for LGBTQ+ equality.
