Gorakhpur: A daughter of a carpenter and a 15-year-old class XI student rows her boat in intimidating currents of the Rapti River around 800 meters daily to reach school from her house in the Bahrampur area of the district.

A video of the girl rowing her boat in a school uniform has gone viral and she is being praised for her courage and her dedication to studies.

The girl, Sandhya Sahini, who seeks inspiration from Indira Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu, PT Usha, and the like, said she wanted to give her parents a good life and she wants to excel in her studies.

She studies in Ayodhya Das Girls Inter College on bank road and she rows her boat to reach Raj Ghat, from where reaches her school traveling by tempo.

“My school was closed for a long period due to Covid-19 and now we have been facing the issue of flooding in the Rapti River. I don’t want to miss any more classes as I don’t take any tuition. I am dependent on my school for my studies,” she told the reporters.

She also appealed to the Chief Minister to get an embankment constructed in her area as floodwater entered many houses and families are forced to live on terraces under plastic sheets.

She also thanked the CM for the construction of ghats like Raj Ghat, Ram Ghat, etc.
