Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday delivered a somber update on the state's escalating flood crisis, confirming that the death toll has now reached 66. This figure includes one fatality reported within Guwahati Urban, highlighting the widespread impact of the deluge across the region.

Alongside this grim revelation, the Chief Minister also unveiled a significant relief initiative to be spearheaded by the State BJP. The party has committed to providing substantial aid in the form of essential clothing to hundreds of thousands of individuals displaced and affected by the floods in the worst-hit districts.

Detailing the scope of the relief operation, CM Sarma stated that the Assam State BJP aims to distribute 2 lakh Mekhela-Chador to women and an equal number of clothing sets to children. This extensive drive, designed to mitigate immediate hardships faced by vulnerable populations, is estimated to require a total financial outlay of Rs 12 crore.

The Chief Minister issued a fervent appeal to all BJP workers across Assam, urging their active participation in the flood relief operations. He emphasized the critical need for a collective and robust response to assist those in distress. To meet the ambitious financial target for this initiative, a structured donation process has been outlined, encouraging contributions towards the procurement of relief materials. The ongoing floods continue to pose significant challenges across the state, necessitating comprehensive support efforts from both governmental and non-governmental entities.
