Digital Desk: Kaziranga National Park in Assam will get its first woman Field Director Dr. Sonali Ghosh, after the current Field Director Jatindra Sarma retires on September 1, 2023.

Sonali Ghosh, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forest (Research Education and Working Plan), will take over as Field Director of the renowned adobe of the one-horned rhinoceros at Kaziranga National Park in Assam.

From September 1, Ghosh will take over as Field Director of Kaziranga National Park, succeeding Jatindra Sarma, who will be retiring on August 31.

It should be noted that Sonali Ghosh will be in charge of the 118-year-old park.

According to the most recent census conducted in March 2022, the national park is home to around 2600 one-horned rhinoceros. This will mark the first time in more than a century that a woman has played a significant part in the creation of a national park.

Since 1985, Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
