The victim has been identified as Fakharuddin Bhuyan (26) of Kadamtala, Barpeta. He was kidnapped by five men from the Bhagadattapur area and held captive in Sumer village under Umiam Police Station of Ribhoi district, Meghalaya.

Digital Desk: A businessman was travelling to Guwahati to watch an IPL match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the ACA Stadium, Barsapara, was kidnapped on March 26 but later rescued successfully by the Guwahati Police.

The victim has been identified as Fakharuddin Bhuyan (26) of Kadamtala, Barpeta. He was kidnapped by five men from the Bhagadattapur area and held captive in Sumer village under Umiam Police Station of Ribhoi district, Meghalaya.

The kidnappers also demanded a ransom of Rs 12 lakh for Bhuyan's release.

Following the incident, a team of Dispur Police led by IC Bhagadattapur & SOG, East immediately left for Nongpoh of Meghalaya, traced, and rescued the victim. The team also arrested five men in connection with the kidnapping case.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Abul Hossain (27), Abul Nasar (31), Sahir Ahmed (22), Kashem (30) and Abdul Hannan (22). They were brought to the Dispur Police Station for interrogation and further legal action.
