This move comes after a letter from the Assam State Election Commission and has been officially notified by the Governor of Assam.

Digital Desk: The Assam Government has announced public holidays on May 2 and May 7, 2025, in consideration of the upcoming Panchayat Polls across the state. The holidays have been declared under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881.    

All government and non-government offices, educational institutions, commercial business establishments, and banks will remain closed on these days.

This move comes after a letter from the Assam State Election Commission and has been officially notified by the Governor of Assam.

Voting will take place in more than 25,000 polling stations across Assam. The counting of votes will take place on May 11.

Around 1,20,000 polling personnel will be deployed across all the districts, while 1,80,36,682 voters will cast their votes.

The voter base has increased to 13.27% from the previous polls.

In the first phase, the polling will take place in Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Majuli, Jorhat, Golaghat, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Cachar, Hailakandi, and Sribhumi. 

The second phase will cover Dhubri, South Salmara, Mankachar, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Bajali, Nalbari, Kamrup Rural, Kamrup Metro, Hojai, Nagaon, Morigaon, and Darrang.
