  • Local security personnel provided immediate assistance and facilitated his transfer to medical care

A tourist hailing from Assam recently suffered head injuries following an unfortunate fall at the renowned Elephant Falls in Upper Shillong, Meghalaya. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning while the individual was exploring the picturesque cascade with his family, prompting an immediate emergency response.

The popular tourist destination, known for its multi-tiered waterfalls, witnessed swift action from security personnel affiliated with the San Shnong Youth Welfare Organisation (SSYWO). These dedicated volunteers were instrumental in providing crucial first-response assistance and arranging for the injured visitor's urgent transportation.

He was initially rushed to the Pomlum Primary Health Centre (PHC) where medical staff administered immediate first aid. Given the nature of his head injuries, doctors at the PHC subsequently referred him to the Civil Hospital in Shillong for more specialized treatment and continuous medical observation, underscoring the severity of the incident.

Iarap Rynjah, the general secretary of the SSYWO, confirmed the details of the event, commending his organisation's security team for their prompt and efficient intervention. He emphasized their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all visitors to the falls, especially during unforeseen circumstances. While the rapid response ensured the tourist received timely medical care, specific information regarding his current condition remains undisclosed. This incident serves as a reminder for visitors to exercise caution while navigating natural sites, even those equipped with safety measures.
