Despite the passage of time and a lack of breakthroughs in his case, the maestro's timeless music continues to resonate deeply across the state, keeping alive the fervent hope among his numerous fans and colleagues that he will one day reappear.
As the second anniversary of his vanishing approaches this Wednesday, well-wishers, fellow musicians, and admirers are preparing to converge at his residence in Latasil. The gathering is not merely a tribute to his profound cultural contributions but also a collective expression of unwavering belief that the beloved artist will find his way back home.
A special cultural programme, aptly named 'Samaloy,' which translates to a heartfelt appeal for his return, is scheduled to commence at 6:30 PM. This event, organised collaboratively by the Latasil Ganesh Mandir Development Committee, the All Guwahati Students’ Union, and concerned members of the public, aims to honour Baruah's artistic genius while serving as a poignant plea for his safe homecoming.
Baruah was last seen leaving his Latasil residence on the morning of July 22, 2022, and has not been heard from since. Despite extensive efforts, no concrete clues regarding his whereabouts have emerged. Yet, the spirit of hope, fueled by the indelible mark he left on Assamese culture, persists strongly among those who cherish his memory and his melodies.
