The arrested official was caught red-handed while taking Rs 50,000 as a bribe from the complainant.

Digital Desk: Gaurav Shekhar Das, an assistant commissioner of Bajali district was arrested by the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (DV&AC) on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in accepting bribe from a complainant at his Pathsala office.

The arrested official was caught red-handed while taking Rs 50,000 as a bribe from the complainant.

In a media release, DV&AC stated that a complaint against Gaurav Das was received for demanding Rs 1,00,000 as a bribe to facilitate a businessman's work. However, the arrested official reduced the amount to Rs 50,000 after negotiations.

The businessman then approached the anti-corruption department to set up a trap and arrest the official while taking bribes.

In a post on X, Surendra Kumar, ADGP (DV&AC) said that the official was arrested as to assure no obstacle in free earth cutting business.
