  • 21 lakh people across 11 districts

Bollywood actress Bhumi Pednekar has called upon citizens across India to extend their support to the victims of the devastating floods in Assam. The actress utilized her social media platform to highlight the critical situation unfolding in the northeastern state, urging a collective national response.

As of July 24, the flood situation in Assam remained dire, with reports indicating that over 7.21 lakh people have been severely impacted across 11 districts. Compounding the crisis, five major rivers in the region were reported to be flowing above the danger mark, exacerbating the humanitarian challenge.

In a video message, Pednekar underscored the immense scale of the disaster, noting that lakhs of individuals have been displaced from their homes, numerous lives have been tragically lost, and entire villages have been completely submerged or washed away. She expressed concern that the plight of Assam was not receiving adequate national attention, despite the widespread devastation. The actress highlighted that properties and livestock, which form the bedrock of livelihoods for many, have been destroyed, leaving countless families in despair. She appealed to the nation's spirit of solidarity, expressing confidence that, as in previous crises, the country would unite to provide much-needed aid.

Officials continue to monitor the escalating situation, as the toll on human lives and infrastructure mounts. The appeal from prominent figures like Pednekar is crucial in drawing broader awareness and mobilizing support for the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-ravaged areas of Assam.
