"Shivdasani made a click on the message's link. As he was following the instructions, he received a message stating Rs 1,49,999 were debited from his account," he added.
Digital Desk: Bollywood actor Aftab Shivdasani lost Rs 1.50 lakh due to cyber fraud when he received a text message in which he was asked to update his Know Your Customer (KYC) information connected to a leading private sector bank, police said on Tuesday.
According to a Bandra police station official, the incident happened on Sunday, and the next day, a case was filed in connection with it.
"The actor got a message from an unknown mobile number. He received a notice stating that his account will be suspended if his KYC information with the bank was not updated.
Shivdasani made a click on the message's link. As he was carrying out the instructions, he received a message stating Rs 1,49,999 were debited from his account," he added.
The actor then contacted the bank's branch manager on Monday, and based on his advice, he lodged a police complaint, the official added. He stated that further investigation was ongoing in a case under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including section 420 (cheating), and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
Shivdasani has appeared in several Bollywood films, such as Mast, Masti, and Hungama.
