The team uncovered illegal alcohol stored underground in textile bags in the homes of over six families.

Digital Desk: Special information from the Guwahati Special Branch served as the basis for the Excise Department to conduct its major operation against alcohol distilleries operating illegally in Amguri. The Nazira and Sivasagar Excise Departments executed the operation against illegal distilleries in Modi Nagar of Gelaki as well as Habi Gaon and Ram Tuk Gaon and Konwar Gaon.

During the raid , the team recovered 8,200 liters of illicit alcohol along with 11 distillation units while destroying 35 liters of dangerous alcoholic beverages. The six families residing in Konwar Gaon had also kept illegal alcohol hidden below ground in textile bags. Arresting the illegal distillery was one of the outcomes from the operation.

After the relocation of the Excise department office from Amguri , it gives a green flag to the  increase in illegal distillation operations. People living in parts of  Borbam, Borsila, Haluwating and other areas are demanding that authorities enhance their efforts to stop the increasing illegal alcohol business.
