Lucknow: Three people have been arrested in connection with the Muradnagar cremation ground roof collapse case. The death toll has climbed to 25. Most of the dead were attending a funeral when the roof of the crematorium collapsed and many got injured while taking shelter from the rain. The incident took place at the cremation ground in Uttar Pradesh’s Muradnagar collapsed on Sunday.

An engineer, supervisor and an executive officer have been arrested in connection with the case. The contractor, identified as Ajay Tyagi, who is another accused in the case, is absconding.

On the complaint of a deceased's son at the Muradnagar police station, Ajay Tyagi, Niharika Singh, Chandra Pal and Ashis were booked under relevant sections of the IPC, including 304 (causing death by negligence).

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives. He announced Rs 2 lakh as financial relief for the families of each person killed.

The chief minister also directed Meerut’s Divisional Commissioner and Additional Director General of the police zone to submit a report on the incident.
