Digital Desk: Fog disrupted traffic in the morning in  Delhi and across the National Capital Region on Friday due to low visibility as a layer of fog covered the city. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature in Delhi was recorded at 9.6°C at 5:30 AM. The department has anticipated that the minimum temperature is likely to be 6 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature is around about 20 degrees  Celsius accompanied with thick fog for the whole day.

Delhi Airport also put out a notice based on the weather conditions, which warned passengers to expect changes to flight timetables. They have noted that people have been urged to keep informed by consulting their respective airlines.

At this time, the air quality of Delhi is categorized as ‘severe’. As per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 409 at 7:00 AM, down from 299 the previous day on 9th January. It is worthy of note that the level of air quality when measured by AQI and situated between 401 and 500 is defined as deadly and hazardous to health.

Due to this situation, the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has intervened in order to enhance support to the homeless in Delhi. Two hundred and thirty-five tents have been put up in different areas like AIIMS, Lodhi Road and Nizamuddin Flyover to accommodate people temporarily as pagoda tents.

People are asked to be careful, stay indoors and take all the preventive measures needed to protect own health due to the increase of pollutant levels and decrease of visibility.
