TG Sitharam has been appointed as the next chairman of AICTE, succeeding M Jagadesh Kumar...

Digital Desk: The Ministry of Education announced on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, that TG Sitharam, director of IIT-Guwahati, has been chosen as the next chairperson of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). 

He will succeed M Jagadesh Kumar, head of the University Grants Commission (UGC), who has been acting as interim chairman of the technical education regulator since Anil Sahasrabuddhe retired on September 1, 2021, at the age of 65. 

"The Central Government hereby appoints, Prof TG Sitharam, Director, Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, as Chairman, AICTE for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge or until attaining the age of 65 years or until further orders, whichever is earlier," the MoE stated in an official notification.

In July 2019, he was appointed as the director of IIT-Guwahati. 

Sitharam was previously a professor at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore's department of civil engineering, after serving as the institute's chair professor of energy and mechanical sciences. He has spent over 27 years working at the IISc.
