Trump’s announcement followed Harris's recent confirmation as the Democratic Party’s nominee for the upcoming presidential election.

Digital Desk: Late Friday, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced that he has agreed to debate his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, on Fox News on September 4.

Trump shared the news on his Truth Social platform, stating, “I have agreed with Fox News to debate Kamala Harris on Wednesday, September 4th.” It remains unclear whether Harris has confirmed her participation.

Trump’s announcement followed Harris's recent confirmation as the Democratic Party’s nominee for the upcoming presidential election. Last month, Trump’s campaign faced a significant shift when 81-year-old President Joe Biden, amidst concerns about his age and declining poll numbers, withdrew from his re-election bid and endorsed Harris.

Biden’s withdrawal came after a poor debate performance against Trump in June on CNN. While a second debate between Trump and Biden was scheduled for September 10 on ABC, it was expected to proceed with Harris as Biden’s replacement. However, a Trump spokesperson had previously stated that scheduling a debate before Harris was officially the nominee would be “inappropriate.”

Although Trump had initially expressed reluctance to debate Harris, who is nearly two decades younger, Harris had challenged him to a face-to-face debate last month, saying, “Well Donald, I do hope you'll reconsider meeting me on the debate stage, because as the saying goes, if you've got something to say, say it to my face,” during a rally in Atlanta.

Trump’s post confirmed that the debate will take place in Pennsylvania and be moderated by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum in front of a live audience. Fox News also verified that the debate would include “spectators” and follow similar rules to the June 27 CNN debate between Trump and Biden. The network has invited both candidates to participate in the September debate in Pennsylvania.

“I look forward to meeting and debating Kamala Harris on September 4th,” Trump said, noting that the timing is “convenient and appropriate” as it precedes the start of early voting for the presidential election on September 6.
