Digital Desk: Renowned Assamese folk artist, Dr. Prashanna Gogoi has been awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for folk music and dance.

Dr. Prashanna Gogoi, an internationally acclaimed artist, was bestowed with the title of "Bihu Guru" by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in 2003.

In 2003, Gogoi was recognized as an ethnomusicologist and master craftsman in making musical instruments by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, and was deputed to Spain during Vadya Darshan, an exposition of Indian musical instruments, at the University of Valladolid, Spain, to deliver lecture-demonstrations on music and musical instrument crafting along with dances of Assam.

He was also the choreographer of the Bihu Dance, performed by 250 artists from the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, at the inaugural cultural ceremony of the 1st Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad in 2003, where the team was also declared the "Best Cultural Team" by the Organising Committee.
