There was no discussion on the controversial smart meters.

Digital Desk: The Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) has  proposed higher electricity rates although the state government declared an upcoming yearly discount of ₹1 per unit in power bills.

AERC received APDCL's proposal regarding power rate changes one week later when the commission conducted a public review with chairman Kumar Sanjay Krishna at the public hearing . However,  Smart Meters remain absent from the discussion since the commission received no complaints about them.

Ten organizations participated in the hearing which included institutions that presented their opinions regarding the proposed tariff revision. AERC chairman declared that all opinions received will lead to the decision on electricity tariffs for fiscal year 2025-2026 which will be announced during the last week of this ongoing fiscal year.

Although APDCL has expressed a preference for maintaining the existing tariff, it has also proposed an increase in certain categories. The AERC chairman confirmed that electricity prices for low consumption households and those under  Jeevan Dhara scheme would see a ₹1 reduction per unit in their electricity rates .Technological distribution through the proposed changes has started generating dialogue based on consumers throughout the state.
