While the X.com domain is now live, many users are expected to continue referring to the platform as Twitter, given its long history and familiarity

Digital Desk: Elon Musk's vision for his social media platform, X, has finally taken a significant step forward with the completion of the transition from Twitter.com to X.com. This change marks the final removal of the Twitter legacy from the platform, with Musk announcing on X that "all core systems are now on X.com". The update was accompanied by a new X layout, sparking speculation about a potential official branding change for the public.

The transition to X.com has been a long time coming, with Musk having changed the name and logo of Twitter to X in July 2023. However, until now, the website still operated under the Twitter.com domain. The delay in switching to X.com was likely due to the complexity of updating the platform's backend code, which was heavily reliant on the "Twitter.com" URL.

Additionally, the company's attempt to automatically replace "Twitter.com" with "X.com" in links earlier this year was met with issues, as it affected URLs ending with "twitter.com" even if they weren't actual Twitter links, posing a phishing risk.

Despite these challenges, Musk has pushed forward with his vision to transform X into an "everything app," adding features such as video and audio calling, payment services, and an AI chatbot called Grok for premium users. The character limit for posts-old has also been increased, and a blue subscription service has been launched worldwide.

While the X.com domain is now live, many users are expected to continue referring to the platform as Twitter, given its long history and familiarity. Nevertheless, Musk's efforts to rebrand and expand the platform's capabilities signal a significant shift in the social media landscape.
