Surat: On Wednesday, three members of a family drowned while a newly married couple from the family went missing after they went for a bath in the river in Gujarat’s Surat district.

Ten members of the family and some children went to offer prayers at a dargah and after offering prayers they went for a bath in the Ambika river which is just near the dargah.

According to police, a male member who recently tied the knot started drowning and raised an alarm.

Four women members of the family including his wife rushed to save him, and they started drowning as well.

The children were saved by one of the family members who was at the river bank but the man and four women got swept away in the waters.

A fire department team reached the spot and found out two bodies on Tuesday, while another body was taken out on Wednesday.

The newly married couple was still missing, and according to reports, the family hailed from Surat.

Despite putting barricades and boards at the spot warning people to refrain from going towards the river, outsiders visiting the place still go for a swim and risk their lives in the process. Many such incidents have been reported in the past as well, the police said.
