Digital Desk: Palestinian militant group Hamas released four female Israeli soldiers on January 25 who had been captured since the attack on the Nahal Oz military base on October 7, 2023. Karina Ariev, Daniella Gilboa, Naama Levy, and Liri Albag, dressed in IDF uniforms were released as part of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, which concentrates on the exchange of hostages and prisoners to put an end to the ongoing conflict.

The soldiers in uniforms were handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Gaza City before being transferred to Israeli forces. Their physical and psychological assessments were done before reuniting with their families. In return, Israel agreed to release 200 Palestinian prisoners.

As the release aired on a big screen, the families of the four soldiers and hundreds of Israeli people gathered and cried out loud to express their joy for their return.

This exchange of prisoners follows an earlier deal in which three Israeli hostages were exchanged for 90 Palestinian prisoners. The ceasefire agreement plans to exchange additional hostages in the coming weeks as both sides aim to secure the release of more people.

The conflict began with a Hamas-led attack in October 2023 and caused massive losses on both sides. According to reports, over 47,000 Palestinians were killed during the war of 15 months while Israel also lost more than 400 soldiers during these attacks.
