Hyderabad: As the Ganesh festival begins in the country, the makers of pandals have come out with innovative decoration ideas to raise awareness. A community pandal in Hyderabad installed an eco-friendly Ganesha idol on platforms modelled on Covid-19 vaccine vial. The design of the pandal has been done to motivate people to get vaccinated against the deadly virus. People gathered at the venue to offer prayers to the deity.

Future Foundation Society’s President, Mr. Sachin Chandan, is installing Ganesh idols for the last 25 years. He said that “we install Ganesh idols here every year for the last 25 years. For 12 years, we are focusing on creating eco-friendly idols. And this time, we came up with the idea of promoting the COVID-19 vaccination drive via this idol. Here, Ganesh deity is standing on three vaccines with two rats holding the vaccine box. The idol promotes registration on the Co-WIN portal for the drive. We are giving a social message through the Ganesh idols that vaccines are safe and everybody should get vaccinated."

The idea of promoting the Covid-19 vaccination drive has created a buzz in the state, and also the visiting devotees appreciated the idea. While talking to the devotees, one of the devotees, Lakshmi, said that “I am very excited to see this pandal. I come every year here to take the blessings of Ganpati Bappa.”

A ten-day festival Ganesh Chaturthi began on September 10 with enthusiasm and vigor across the country amid COVID-19 restrictions and protocols.
