Digital Desk: A report from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Tej, which is now building over the Arabian Sea, is expected to intensify into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS) by the morning of October 22.

According to the IMD, Cyclone Tej was centred at 2330 IST over the southwest Arabian Sea, around 330 km ESE of Socotra (Yemen), 690 km SSE of Salalah (Oman), and 720 km SE of Al Ghaidah (Yemen).


By October 22, the cyclone is projected to intensify into an Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm. The IMD also predicts that the cyclone will intensify into a deep depression during the next 24 hours. 

Earlier, the IMD said that a low-pressure region over the southeast and bordering southwest Arabian Seas has developed into a depression and that it is on track to become a severe cyclonic storm by Sunday.

The cyclone is forecast to move north-northwestward towards the shores of South Oman and Yemen.
