India freed up a contingent of 10,000 soldiers previously stationed at its western border to strengthen its disputed border with China...

Digital Desk: China has voiced disapproval of India's recent deployment of 10,000 additional troops to the disputed China-India border, stating that the move is "not conducive to easing tensions." Mao Ning, a spokesperson for China's foreign ministry, expressed concern about India's decision, emphasising that it does not contribute to safeguarding peace and stability in the border areas.

Despite previous agreements between the two countries to engage in dialogue through military and diplomatic channels, China criticised India's military reinforcement.

India freed up a contingent of 10,000 soldiers previously stationed at its western border to strengthen its disputed border with China, specifically in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, bordering the Himalayas. Mao Ning affirmed China's commitment to working with India to maintain peace and stability in the border regions but argued that India's actions were counterproductive.

The disputed China-India border spans 3,800 kilometres, much of which is poorly demarcated, leading to historical tensions. The area witnessed deadly clashes in mid-2020, resulting in casualties on both sides. Despite efforts to fortify positions and engage in diplomatic discussions, the recent military buildup by India has drawn criticism from China, raising concerns about the potential impact on peace and safety in the region.

The ongoing complexities in the China-India relationship underscore the challenges in managing and resolving border issues between the two nations.
