Guwahati, Assam – The India International Dance Festival (IIDF) 2026 recently concluded its vibrant two-evening run at the Kanaklal Barua Auditorium within the Assam State Museum, Ambari. The festival served as a magnificent platform, bringing together over 100 distinguished artistes and budding practitioners from across the nation to showcase the timeless beauty and discipline of Indian classical dance.
Under the unifying theme of “Celebrating Dance Sans Division,” the IIDF Guwahati aimed to foster a deeper appreciation for India's diverse dance heritage. Co-presented by Samskritiki, Bhubaneswar, and Darpan Dance Akademi, Guwahati, the event was steered by the collective vision of Festival Founder Sri Shyamhari Chakra and Festival Director Dr. Anjana Moyee Saikia, herself a renowned Odissi and Sattriya dancer.
The festival meticulously wove together five of India's most revered classical traditions: Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Kathak, Manipuri, and the indigenous Sattriya. Through a series of evocative solo performances, intimate duets, and grand group choreographies, the stage came alive, narrating profound stories and demonstrating the exquisite grace inherent in these cultural forms. Attendees were treated to a breathtaking display that underscored the rich artistic legacy of the country.
The inaugural evening, which set the tone for the cultural extravaganza, was officially opened by Chief Guest Shri Bipul Chandra. The successful culmination of the festival reaffirms Guwahati's growing prominence as a hub for national cultural events, further enriching the artistic landscape of the Northeast.
