Visa services have resumed in various categories, including entry visas, business visas, medical visas, and conference visas...

Digital Desk: India has decided to reintroduce visa services for some Canadian citizens in the following categories: entry visas, business visas, medical visas, and conference visas. The news comes just days after India suspended visa services for Canadians, citing a strained diplomatic relationship between the two countries.

The Indian High Commission in Canada announced on Wednesday, "After a considered review of the security situation that takes into account some recent Canadian measures in this regard, it has been decided to resume visa services."

The resume of visa services will take place on Thursday, October 26.

According to the High Commission, "emergency services will continue to be handled by the Indian High Commission and the consulates in Toronto and Vancouver."

Many people will be relieved by this statement, especially those who have been waiting for these services since Indian visa services for Canadians were discontinued on September 21.

In September, India banned the distribution of new visas to Canadians after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that he had "credible" claims concerning the possible involvement of Indian government operatives in the assassination of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

The most recent news release from the Indian High Commission, however, indicates a shift towards reconciliation. The release also suggests " a cautious approach to full normalisation, with a remark that subsequent decisions would be communicated "based on continuing evaluation of the situation."

This drama has affected many Canadians, particularly those who want to visit India during the holiday season or who require medical treatment. As a result of the diplomatic difficulties, Canada discontinued in-person visa services at its consulates.
