Digital Desk: The Home Ministry has appointed IPS officer Nalin Prabhat as the next Director General of Police (DGP) for Jammu and Kashmir.
Prabhat, a 1992-batch IPS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, will assume the role of DGP on October 1, following the end of RR Swain's term on September 30. Swain, a 1991-batch IPS officer from the Jammu and Kashmir cadre, will retire after serving as DGP for 11 months.
Currently serving as the Special Director General (SDG) of police in Jammu and Kashmir until September 30, Prabhat will officially take over as DGP on October 1.
At 56 years old, Prabhat boasts a distinguished career, including three police gallantry medals and leadership of the 'Greyhounds', an elite anti-Naxal force in Andhra Pradesh. He took on the role of Director General of the National Security Guard in April this year, but his tenure was cut short. The government has approved his transfer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre to the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre for a period of three years, or until further notice, as part of relaxed inter-cadre transfer guidelines. This transfer will facilitate his appointment as the DGP in Jammu and Kashmir.
During his tenure, Prabhat is anticipated to focus on various responsibilities, including bolstering the anti-terror framework in the Union Territory.
