Digital Desk: Officials reported that Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist Shahid Latif, considered to be the mastermind of the 2016 attack on an Indian Air Force post in Pathankot, was killed in a mosque in Daska town in Pakistan's Sialkot region on October 11 by unidentified assailants.


Latif, alias Bilal, identified as a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, is said to have been shot dead by three gunmen and two of his companions.


He penetrated the Kashmir Valley in 1993 and was apprehended the following year. According to officials, he remained in Jammu jail with Masood Azhar, the JeM's founder, till 2010.


Following his release, he was relocated to Pakistan and formally joined the terror group, they claimed.


"This is the biggest blow to JeM on Pakistani soil," a government official said. Reportedly, The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had been searching for Latif.


On January 2, 2016, four JeM terrorists infiltrated the Pathankot Air Force Station, killing seven IAF soldiers. The siege which lasted three days.
