  • The flood situation in Jorhat district has significantly worsened, with four villages in Alengmora submerged, while the statewide death toll from the ongoing deluge has tragically climbed to 31

Jorhat district is grappling with a severe flood crisis as surging waters have inundated four villages within the Alengmora area, marking a significant deterioration in the local situation. This comes amidst a broader flood emergency across Assam, which has tragically claimed 21 lives in the past 24 hours alone.

State authorities reported that the recent fatalities have pushed the total death toll from the current wave of floods to 31. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) is closely monitoring the escalating crisis as relief and rescue operations continue across affected regions.

In response to the dire conditions, particularly concerning public health, a multi-departmental effort has been launched in areas like Jorhat. Medical teams are actively conducting village-to-village outreach programs, providing crucial health services and addressing immediate medical needs. A medical officer involved in the efforts indicated that approximately 60 to 70 patients are being treated daily, highlighting the urgent requirement for medical intervention.

A major focus of these initiatives is ensuring access to safe drinking water, a critical concern in flood-affected localities. Emergency transportation and medical teams have been placed on standby to facilitate rapid response to any medical emergencies. Officials anticipate these comprehensive relief and health outreach programs will continue for at least a week to mitigate the immediate impact on the affected population.
