Gangtok: Massive landslides caused by incessant rains have cut off roadway connections in many parts of Sikkim. The National Highway 10, has been completely blocked due to the debris accumulated due to landslides, cutting off connection with the rest of the country.

The incident was reported on Monday morning on the highway at a 29-mile area in Kalimpong, West Bengal.

Border Roads Organisation personnel are clearing the highway at 29 Mile area in Kalimpong.

The landslide is said to have occurred the entire last night, and the debris has covered almost 70 m stretches which will take at least hours to clear the road for one-way traffic, officials said.

At present, vehicles are being diverted, through an alternate narrower road which is longer than usual. The longer rote passes through the Darjeeling hills, they said.

About 60 km from the Sikkim border town of Rangpo is a trouble spot on the state's lifeline NH-10. So far in this monsoon, the road got blocked due to landslides at least four times.
