Digital Desk: As many as 24 patients, including 12 newborns died at a state-run hospital in Maharashtra's Nanded in the last 24 hours, the hospital dean said, blaming a staffing and medication deficit.

Twelve adults out of the 24 people passed away in the past 24 hours due to "various ailments, mostly snake bites," according to the dean of Nanded's Shankarrao Chavan Government Hospital.

" In the past 24 hours, six male and six female babies died. Additionally, 12 adults died from different ailments, mainly snake bites. We faced a few obstacles since various staff were being transferred," he said.

"We are the only tertiary-level care centre within an area of 70 to 80 kilometres. So, patients come to us from far-off places. The number of patients increases on some days and it creates a problem for the budget," he said.
