Digital Desk: As many as five houseboats were reduced to ashes in a huge fire that started early on Saturday morning at Srinagar's famous Dal Lake. The fire swiftly spread and consumed four other houseboats, leaving a path of devastation in its wake. It is thought to have started from a houseboat at Ghat number 9.

When the fire began, the houseboats, which are valued for their cultural and historical significance, were moored along the lake.

Special teams from the fire services department arrived on the scene quickly in order to put out the fire. Preliminary estimates of the disaster's financial cost approach crores, indicating a significant financial impact.

However, the incident did not result in any fatalities.

While the exact cause of the incident is currently under investigation, initial reports indicate that a short circuit may have been the catalyst.
