Digital Desk: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday held a video conference meeting with the President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) PT Usha. The officials of the Meghalaya Olympic Association (MOA) are also present at the meeting. During the meeting, the Chief Minister briefed PT Usha about the readiness and preparedness of the state to host the 39th National Games in 2027.

The chief minister said that the state has invested in sports infrastructure, including the upgradation of the JN Sports Complex in Shillong, Wahijher Stadium in Jaintia Hills, and P.A. Sangma Integrated Sports Complex in Tura and various other sporting facilities in the last four years.

CM Sangma also informed that Shillong has successfully hosted many sporting events including the North East Games in 2022, the South Asian Games in 2016, and the Meghalaya Games have been regularly hosted for the last three years.

Commissioner of Sports & Youth Affairs Dr. D Vijay Kumar informed that the state has signed an agreement with the IOA in 2018, which states that Shillong will be the host city, and two other cities Tura and Jowai will host different sports disciplines for the National Games.

President of IOA, PT Usha said that the association is considering giving Meghalaya the opportunity to host the games.

This year the games are being held at Uttarakhand, and the national games will not be held in 2026 as India is hosting the Asian Games.
